Edgar Gutiérrez Espeleta

Professor Gutiérrez-Espeleta has collaborated with projects of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and in particular, as co-editor and project leader of UNEP Global Perspectives on the Environment in Latin America since 1995. He was the project leader and coordinator of the regional environmental data portal to support the Forum of Ministers of the Environment of Latin America and the Caribbean. He has been a consultant for UNSD, IDB and UNDP. He was Minister of Environment and Energy for Costa Rica from 2014 to 2018. He was also president of the Second and Third Assembly of the United Nations for the Environment in 2016 and 2017. He is currently Special Envoy of the Convention to Combat Desertification and Drought of the United Nations for Latin America and the Caribbean.
